PSLA welcomes Dr. Mengjun Hu, new Assistant Professor who will join the faculty in early February 2018 from the Department of Agricultural Sciences, Clemson University, where he was a postdoc. Dr. Hu’s research has been primarily focused on fungicide resistance and its molecular basis. He has also studied fungal population genetics and taxonomy, with emphasis on gray mold of small fruit, peach anthracnose and brown rot. He has researched abiotic issues as well including peach skin streaking and bronzing. In addition to his research efforts, Dr. Hu was involved in several extension programs at Clemson University. He was one of the original developers of “MyIPM”, a smartphone application developed to help sustainable peach and strawberry production in the southeast. Dr. Hu was also in charge of a location specific resistance monitoring program, a free service offered to strawberry growers on the east coast, with the goal of identifying effective fungicide applications for the control of gray mold.
