On Tuesday, May 8th Chris Walsh, Kathy Hunt, Dave Martin, and Justine Beaulieu (in conjunction with Deanna Baldwin from the MD Dept of Ag) put on a training for UM Extension and the MD Department of Agriculture at the Wye Research and Education Center. The training was titled "On Farm Readiness Review Training". Starting next month, teams made up of three people (UMD PSLA person, MDA person, and local Extension Agent) will visit any farm that wants to go through an "On Farm Readiness Review (OFRR)". The purpose of the review is to assess compliance with the Produce Safety Rule under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), which is a law that was passed by Congress and implemented by the FDA. Many Maryland farmers fall under this rule.
