2020 PSLA Video Contest

As we approach the start of a new semester, we have a fun opportunity for you to submit a video detailing why you love plants and why you chose to come to UMD and PSLA for a chance to win the top prize of $500!!

Official Rules and Regulations:

WHO CAN ENTER THE CONTEST?

The contest is open to University of Maryland students. currently registered as a student in the Department of Plant Science & Landscape Architecture and enrolled in classes during the fall of 2020. 

HOW DO I ENTER?

  1. Create a video no more than 2 minutes long about why plants matter to you and why you chose PSLA at UMD. The content of the video can be whatever you like so long as it somehow conveys why plants are important to you and why you chose to come to UMD PSLA. . To  enter, fill out the entry form by clicking on the link below. Please make the title of your video as unique as possible. All videos are due by Tuesday, September 15th.. Only one video per entry form.

        • Turf & Golf Course Management

        • Urban Forestry

  2. Fill out the contest entry form with the required information and video entry. Limit: One entry per person. All contestant information, including email addresses, is subject to the respective Privacy Policy. The contest entry form will be open from Friday, August 14th- Tuesday, September 15th.

PSLA VIDEO CONTEST ENTRY FORM

HOW ARE VIDEOS JUDGED?

All videos will be judged by the PSLA Video Contest committee. Videos will be judged for their creativity, content and originality. Quality is an important aspect of the video but the video does not have to be a high budget production or look amazing. The judges will not award the prize to a video simply because it looks really good or has lots of special effects.

WHEN IS THE WINNER ANNOUNCED?

An announcement of the winner will be made on the PSLA contest website: go.umd.edu/pslavideocontest. An email will also be sent to the winner.  The winner will be announced on or about October 1st, 2020

 

WHAT IS THE PRIZE?

  • First place: $500

  • Second place: $250

  • Third place: $125

CONSENT AND RELEASE

By entering, each contestant releases and discharges the University of Maryland Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture from any and all liability whatsoever in connection with this contest, including without limitation legal claims, costs, injuries, losses or damages, demands or actions of any kind (including without limitation personal injuries, death, damage to, loss or destruction or property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation, or portrayal in a false light) (collectively, “Claims”).

DISCLAIMER

  1. All decisions in regards to the winner are the sole right of the PSLA Video Contest committee and are considered to be final. By accepting the prize the winner understands their name will be released to the general public and that their video will be posted on-line and used by Plant Science and Landscape Architecture and the College of Agricultural and Natural Resources. By submitting a video, you grant UMD a royalty-free license to copy, distribute, modify, display and perform publicly and otherwise use, and authorize others to use, your video for any educational purpose throughout the university and in any media.

  2. PSLA is not responsible for entries that are lost, late, misdirected, incorrect, garbled, or incompletely received, for any reason, including by reason of hardware, software, browser, or network failure, malfunction, congestion, or incompatibility. 

  3. PSLA, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to disqualify any entries it believes violate these rules. 

  4. PSLA, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to disqualify any business or person tampering with the entry process or the operation of the website or otherwise attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of the contest.

  5. PSLA further reserves the right to cancel, terminate or modify the contest if it is not capable of completion as planned, including by reason of infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, force majeure or technical failures of any sort.
